The main accused, Yagya Awasthi, a native of Kanchanpur district of Nepal, is currently on the run, The Times of India reported.

Agartala, Dec 28: The death of Tripura student Angel Chakma in Dehradun following an alleged racially motivated assault has triggered strong political responses, student activism and renewed calls for decisive action from authorities across state governments and political camps.

Senior leaders from the Northeast, including Tripurs Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and MP Biplab Kumar Deb have condemned the killing and sought swift justice.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma described the killing as unacceptable and emphasised that acts of racial violence have no place in a diverse democratic nation.

Conrad Sangma made the statement even as Karbi Anglong witnessed violence rrecently between Karbi people and non-Karbi, mostly Biharis.

Amidst wide condemnation, student activism took centre stage in Tripura on Sunday as multiple youth organisations united to protest the killing of Angel Chakma, turning the streets of Agartala into a platform for collective mourning and resistance.

Led by the Tipra Indigenous Students Federation (TISF) and supported by other student bodies, a candlelight procession was organised to honour the deceased and demand justice.

The march reflected protest and anger among young people over what they described as persistent neglect of student safety outside the Northeast.
