Agartala/Santirbazar: In a significant boost to policing infrastructure in South Tripura, the state government has approved Rs 60.84 crore for the construction of a new building for Baikhora Police Station under the Jolaibari Assembly Constituency.

The project reflects the government’s continued focus on strengthening law and order mechanisms while improving public service delivery in rural and semi-urban areas.

Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, who represents the Jolaibari constituency, recently inspected the proposed site along with police officials, Public Works Department engineers, and local representatives. The visit aimed to finalize the location and review preliminary plans for the ambitious project.

According to officials, the existing police station building has become outdated and no longer meets present operational requirements. Therefore, the government decided to replace it with a modern structure equipped to handle future policing needs.

Site Inspection Conducted with Senior Officials

Several key officials attended the inspection. These included Panchayat Samiti Chairman Tapas Dutta, SDPO Bappi Debbarma, Baikhora Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bishnu Chandra Das, PWD officials, and community representatives.

During the visit, officials examined the proposed location and discussed technical aspects of the project. They also evaluated connectivity and accessibility.

Particular emphasis was placed on selecting a site that offers easy access from the National Highway.

Authorities believe this will help residents reach police services more conveniently while enabling faster emergency response.

Minister Noatia said the project represents a long-standing aspiration of the people of Jolaibari and Baikhora.

He noted that the existing police station has served the region for many years. However, changing administrative demands and population growth have increased the need for a larger and more modern facility.

Government Targets Better Law Enforcement Services

The proposed police station building will feature a two-storey design and modern infrastructure. The Public Works Department’s Construction Wing will execute the project in coordination with the Police Department.

Officials expect the new building to improve operational efficiency and provide better working conditions for police personnel.

The upgraded infrastructure will also support faster service delivery to citizens. Moreover, it will strengthen the ability of law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security in the region.

Construction Expected to Begin Soon

Minister Noatia informed that technical processing and administrative formalities are currently underway.

Once authorities complete these procedures, the government will organize a foundation stone-laying ceremony. Construction activities will begin immediately afterward.

The minister expressed confidence that the project would move forward without unnecessary delays. He also thanked Chief Minister Manik Saha and the state government for approving the funding.

According to him, the project demonstrates the government’s commitment to modernizing public infrastructure and enhancing governance across Tripura.

Part of Wider Development Vision for Jolaibari

The minister highlighted that the new police station forms part of a broader development roadmap for Jolaibari.

Several infrastructure and public welfare projects are currently progressing across the constituency. Government departments regularly monitor these initiatives to ensure timely implementation.
