Supporters of CPM hoisted the party flags at party offices in different parts of the State on Sunday commemorating the 102nd Foundation Day of the Communist Party of India.
At the party headquarters in Agartala Melarmath, CPM State secretary Jitendra Choudhury hoisted the party flag in presence of several veteran State leaders.
Revisiting the history, Choudhury said, “Seven Indian freedom fighters who were also revolutionaries from different parts of the world felt the need to form a revolutionary party to end British imperialism in India and attain independence as well as create an exploitation-free India. Exactly 101 years ago, on October 17, those seven freedom fighters set up Communist Party of India at Tashkhand in the erstwhile Soviet Union”.
He said that the undivided CPI party after its formation in the past 101 years ago was at the forefront of the struggle for independence and tried to mobilize all sections of our people to build a popular freedom movement. The Cellular Jail is the testimony of the contribution of CPI activists and leaders.
In post-Independent India, the CPI from which a new faction, CPI-M emerged later, is spearheading peoples’ struggles for their rights and livelihood issues and remained committed to opposing social injustices and deprivations, Choudhury said.
He also claimed the CPI-M party cannot be compared to other political parties in the country in terms of the party’s key role towards uniting the people for the Indian Freedom Movement and upholding the constitution of India.
Emphasizing the importance of 102nd Foundation Day observance, he said, “Today we are observing the party’s foundation day at a time when the ruling party in the country is making an attempt to rewrite the history of this country.”
In this connection, Choudhury hit back at Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over the latter’s Savarkar remark and accused him of trying to “rewrite history”.
“Today attempts are being made to break the structure of our constitution and throttle the voice of oppositions in our country,” he alleged.
