Dharmanagar Jailbreak: Lax Security Under Scanner
Dharmanagar, Oct 13: In connection with the sensational Dharmanagar Sub-Jail escape case, convicted prisoner Rahim Ali, who was earlier arrested, was produced before the court on Monday after completing three days of police remand. Following crucial revelations during interrogation, the court ordered him to be sent back to judicial custody till October 16.
It may be recalled that in the early hours of Maha Navami during Durga Puja, a total of six convicted inmates escaped from the Dharmanagar Sub-Jail located at Kalikapur. The incident triggered a major alert, prompting swift action by the district administration and police authorities.
So far, police have successfully arrested Abdul Patta, Narayan Dutta, and Rahim Ali, while three other convicts are still absconding. A massive search operation is currently underway to nab the remaining fugitives.
Meanwhile, serious questions have been raised from various quarters regarding the lax security arrangements at the Sub-Jail. Following the incident, six jail staff members were temporarily suspended.
Government advocate Biswajit Das informed the media that along with Rahim Ali, another accused in the same case, Hanu Miah, was also produced before the court on Monday.
As per the court’s directive, Hanu Miah has been remanded to three days of judicial custody. Das further stated that all remaining escaped convicts will be produced together before the court on October 16.
