Four saints including a septuagenarian and their driver were attacked by some unidentified villagers at Teliamura area on Saturday and all of them sustained injuries. The vehicle in which they were traveling was also vandalized.
The saints – Jitendra Goswami (31), Bhojraj (70), Dinesh (21) and Tinku Goswami (32) – and their driver Dharambir Singh (36) hail from Uttar Pradesh.
According to the saints, they were going to one of their devotees’ house at Shantinagar in Teliamura today morning. As their vehicle was entering the village, a group of people attacked the vehicle, vandalized it and thrashed the saints. Sources said, villagers, suspected the saints as child lifters and assaulted them. However, no one filed any complaint with the Police, so far.
“On suspicion of kidnapping children, a group of locals at Shantinagar area on Saturday morning launched an attack on the saints and smashed their vehicle. All the saints including the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries”, sources said.
Later, Police along with a large contingent of TSR jawans rushed to the spot and rescued the saints from the hand of angry mobs. For interrogation, the saints who were taken to the police station told that they arrived in Teliamura from Uttar Pradesh for some religious promotion activities and they were staying at Loknath temple in Teliamura for the last two days. Today, they were going to a devotee’s house and was attacked.
All of them were later released from the police station after a GD entry, as no specific complaint was lodged with the police.
