Tripura: CPIM office in Khowai vandalized
Khowai, Oct 5: Tension gripped Khowai town after miscreants launched a late-night attack on the regional office of the CPIM located at Subhas Park — the heart of the district headquarters. The incident, which took place around midnight, has triggered strong condemnation from party leaders, who have demanded an immediate and impartial investigation.
According to reports, a group of unidentified miscreants targeted the CPIM office, damaging the party’s flag and the flagpole erected in front of the building. They reportedly pelted stones and bricks from the street, shattering the glass panes of the office’s upper floor.
The attackers then tried to break open the office door using a hammer, but when the attempt failed, they vented their rage on nearby property — smashing eleven plastic chairs belonging to an adjoining tea stall.
Soon after receiving information about the attack, senior local CPIM leaders including Kanan Dutta, Manoj Das, Khokan Chakraborty, and Ratan Das rushed to the spot. Police officials led by Officer-in-Charge Krishnadhan Sarkar from Khowai Police Station also arrived shortly after to take stock of the situation.
The CPIM Subhas Park Zonal Committee has filed a formal written complaint with the police, urging a swift and transparent investigation to identify and punish those responsible. Party leaders have alleged that such incidents are deliberate attempts to intimidate opposition voices ahead of crucial political developments in the state.
In a strongly worded statement, the CPIM has condemned the attack, describing it as an “act of cowardice aimed at silencing democratic dissent.” The party further warned that repeated assaults on its offices and workers pose a threat to peace and democratic values in Tripura.
Local police have assured that a probe is underway and that strict legal action will be taken once the perpetrators are identified. Meanwhile, the incident has drawn widespread criticism from various quarters of Khowai’s civic and political circles, who have urged restraint and vigilance to prevent such attacks in the future.
The vandalism at the CPIM zonal office adds to a series of political tensions simmering in the run-up to the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

“As it appears now-a-days, the ruling BJP and main Opposition CPIM are both facing political violence in different parts of the State.
Interestingly, while CPIM is accusing BJP of launching attacks to oppress the Opposition voice, BJP is reportedly facing wrath of from it’s ally in the State, TIPRA Motha Party in the ADC areas”, commented a local resident of Subhas Park in Khowai.
