Agartala/Churaibari: Residents of Laxminagar village in North Tripura district have raised serious allegations against a local resident, Dipan Das, accusing him of involvement in an alleged international human trafficking network. The villagers gathered on Wednesday night and demanded his immediate arrest.

The protest took place under the jurisdiction of Churaibari Police Station. The villagers alleged that the accused has been helping Bangladeshi nationals enter India illegally and arrange fake Indian identity documents.

However, police have not yet issued any official statement confirming the allegations. The matter remains under investigation.

Border Concerns Rise Along Tripura-Bangladesh Frontier

Tripura shares a long international border with Bangladesh, and illegal cross-border movement has remained a security concern in several border areas.

Local residents claimed that human traffickers and middlemen are taking advantage of vulnerable points along the border. They alleged that areas without proper fencing and damaged portions of old fencing create opportunities for illegal activities.

According to villagers, human trafficking and document fraud networks can create challenges for both law enforcement agencies and local communities.

Arrest of Bangladeshi National Sparks Controversy

The recent controversy started after Churaibari police arrested a Bangladeshi citizen from a house in Laxminagar on May 21.

Villagers alleged that Dipan Das had brought Harun from Bangladesh and provided shelter under a different identity. They further claimed that Das helped him obtain Indian identity documents and other government papers.

Villagers Claim Larger Document Fraud Network

Residents stated that the incident was not a single case. They alleged that Dipan Das had been involved in helping several Bangladeshi nationals obtain fake Indian documents.

According to local claims, Das earlier worked as a court clerk in the district court. Villagers alleged that his professional experience helped him understand the process of preparing official documents.

They also claimed that people involved in such activities paid large amounts of money for obtaining identity papers. The villagers alleged that money received in Bangladeshi currency was later converted into Indian currency in the Ramkrishnanagar area of Assam.

Questions Raised Over Sudden Rise in Wealth

Local residents also raised concerns over the accused person’s financial growth. They claimed that Dipan Das, who was earlier in a financially weak position, acquired considerable wealth within a short period.

The villagers said the development had created suspicion in the area for a long time. They now want authorities to investigate the financial links behind the alleged activities.

News Analysis: Border Security and Local Concerns

The allegations from Laxminagar highlight the continuing challenges faced by border districts in the Northeast. Tripura’s location near Bangladesh makes border management a sensitive issue.

The villagers’ concerns focus on three major areas — illegal migration, human trafficking and fake document networks. These issues often require coordination between local police, border security agencies and administrative departments.

The protest also reflects growing public demand for faster action in cases involving alleged cross-border crimes. At the same time, authorities must complete a proper investigation before reaching any conclusion.

If the allegations are verified, the case could reveal links with a wider network involved in illegal migration and document-related fraud. However, the final outcome depends on evidence collected during the investigation.

Police Investigation Continues in North Tripura

Following the protest, villagers said they have faith in Tripura Police and Churaibari police. However, they warned that they may organise a larger movement if authorities delay action against the absconding accused.

The police have not confirmed any arrest of Dipan Das so far. Further investigation is underway to examine the allegations and gather evidence.
