The inter-service engagement comes days after the commissioning of ICGS Amulya, a new-generation fast patrol vessel strengthening maritime security along India’s eastern coast.

Agartala/New Delhi Dec 24: In a move aimed at deepening institutional cooperation between two of India’s premier uniformed forces, a 10-member delegation from the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is undertaking a six-day visit to the Assam Rifles formation at Kunjaban Garrison in Agartala, Tripura, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The official visit commenced on December 22 and is scheduled to conclude on December 27, marking a series of engagements focused on professional exchange and operational understanding.

Defence sources said the visit is being organised under the formal framework of the “Charter of Affiliation” signed between the Assam Rifles and the Indian Coast Guard, which seeks to strengthen collaboration through regular interaction, sharing of operational experiences and adoption of best practices.

During the visit, the Coast Guard delegation met Brigadier Manish Rana, Deputy Inspector General of 21 Sector Assam Rifles, and held detailed discussions on matters of common concern, evolving regional security challenges and potential areas for enhanced future cooperation.

As part of the programme, the visiting officers observed the ceremonial Beating Retreat, offering them an insight into the traditions and heritage of the Assam Rifles.

The delegation also toured key locations in Tripura, including the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Agartala, where officials briefed them on border management mechanisms and facilitation of cross-border trade. Cultural sites such as the historic Ujjayanta Palace were also included in the itinerary.

On Wednesday, the visiting officers paid a courtesy visit to Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu at Lok Bhavan in Agartala. The interactions highlighted the critical role of coordination among uniformed services in safeguarding national security interests.

The visit comes shortly after the Indian Coast Guard commissioned ‘ICGS Amulya’, the third vessel in a fleet of eight new-generation Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels, at a formal ceremony in Goa.

Powered by two advanced diesel engines, each producing 3,000 kilowatts, the fast patrol vessel is capable of attaining speeds of up to 27 knots and has an operational range of 1,500 nautical miles, allowing it to carry out prolonged maritime patrols.

Fitted with indigenously developed, state-of-the-art weaponry and advanced systems, ‘Amulya’ offers high manoeuvrability, operational adaptability and improved performance during sea-based missions.

The vessel is designed to perform multiple roles, including coastal monitoring, maritime interdiction, search and rescue operations, anti-smuggling missions and pollution response, significantly bolstering the Coast Guard’s maritime security and enforcement capabilities.
