Irked at the transfer of a lone subject teacher, students and local people of Jampui Hills started an indefinite road blockade on Monday.

For the last few days, students of Jampui HS School were protesting against the transfer of a lone Economics teacher. The agitating students wrote letters to the Director of Education urging him to revoke the transfer order.

Jampui-Hills-Teacher-Transfer“We have lost many precious days without proper classes due to the Covid pandemic. As the normalcy is returning and smooth-functioning of the schools is on cards, the education department transferred the lone Post Graduate teacher of Economics to another which will ruin our studies”, agitating students said.

Besides, the students also alleged, many teachers were sent away from the School and deputed to other schools which cast a negative impact on imparting quality education. Students demanded substitute teachers.

However, the students received no positive response from the concerned authority.

Worried about the future of their children, parents and local people along with several NGOs of Behliangchhip Village hit the streets and started an indefinite strike demanding the cancellation of the transfer of the teacher.

The need of the hour is to strengthen the number of teachers so that students can make up the lost time due to Covid pandemic and get quality education, the Department is reducing the number of teachers “, agitating students as well as management committee members alleged.

Later, the District Education Officer and other concerned persons held a prolonged discussion with the protestors.

The District Officer assured that the issues raised by the students would be addressed. Agitators made it clear that the transfer order of the Economics teacher must be revoked. After obtaining an assurance, protestors temporarily suspended the indefinite road blockade programme.
