The 25th year of brutal mass killing by the insurgents at Bazar Colony in Kalyanpur was recalled and tributes were paid to the people who were killed. ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, local MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury and common people paid floral tributes to the killed persons. Attendance of a large number of people aptly describes the relevance of observing the day.

On the fateful night of December 12, 1996, insurgents launched a barbaric attack on innocent and helpless residents of the Bazar Colony. The insurgents set afire the dwellings and as the people rushed out of their homes, insurgents opened fire.

In that heinous attack, 26 villagers were killed while several others became handicapped, and many more sustained grievous injuries. Once a thriving village, Bazar Colony was completely gutted and ruined.

Speaking on the occasion, ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury recalled the barbaric act and paid his humble tribute to the victims. MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury commented that the barbaric attack was the result of the Left conspiracy.

The Minister said, the ruling BJP-led Government has established the rule of law in Tripura after it assumed power in 2018. After the BJP government was established, a democratic government, as well as a government for the people, was established. BJP only talks and focuses on the development of the people and the State, he asserted.

“If BJP would not win in 2018 Assembly polls, every area – from Sabroom to Dharmanagar – would have been flooded by human blood. During the Left regime, people had no right to raise their voices.

“The Leftists are such that they would indulge in doing politics with Covid vaccination – however, the BJP government ensured that every eligible citizen of the State, irrespective of their political affiliation gets vaccines”, Sushanta Chowdhury said.
