In a significant development, the Tripura Police, under ‘Operation Sanjeevani,’ successfully apprehended one person and seized various illicit items, including a country made firearm, narcotics, cash, mobile phones, laptops, and tablets, during a series of raids on Monday. In separate raids, seven more were held.
Led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Prasun Kanti Tripura, the Khowai Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Subir Malakar, conducted a thorough search at the residence of Gautam Barman in Lalchhara, Khowai. The operation, which lasted approximately three hours, led to the discovery of a homemade firearm and a stash of heroin valued at Rs 3.5 lakh, stored in two cases. Additionally, the police recovered a substantial sum of Rs 2,07,900 in cash, mobile phones, electronic devices, and a motorcycle. Gautam Barman has been charged under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act.
Similar raids were carried out as part of Operation Sanjeevani in various locations across Khowai, resulting in the apprehension of seven more individuals.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a young man, reportedly addicted to injectable drugs, tragically lost his life in Kalyanpur within the Khowai district due to a suspected drug overdose. The deceased, identified as Prikash Debbarma, was discovered with a syringe and narcotics.
Debbarma, a resident of Champahaor in Khowai, had entered the residence of Badal Deb in Kalyanpur under the guise of using the restroom. Concerned locals raised an alarm when he failed to emerge after a considerable period. The police arrived promptly, rescued Debbarma, and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
Death of Debbarma, once again, depicted the danger of drug addiction. The death came up when Khowai district is observing Operation Sanjeevani to end the growing drug menace in the district and save the youth from the clutches of drugs.
