Agartala Oct 7: Two citizens of Tripura, Shyamal Dey and Anupam Das, brought national recognition and pride through their remarkable achievements.
Both were conferred with the MY Bharat–National Service Scheme (NSS) Award for the year 2022–23, presented by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on October 6, 2025.

In Tripura, Shyamal Dey, a teacher and NSS Programme Officer at Bani Vidyapith Higher Secondary Girls’ School, has been at the forefront of numerous impactful initiatives that have transformed his institution into a hub of social responsibility.
Under his guidance, students have actively participated in health awareness programmes, environmental drives, cleanliness campaigns, blood donation camps, and rural outreach projects.
His dynamic leadership has inspired hundreds of young learners to embrace volunteerism and community service as an integral part of their education.
Dey’s unwavering commitment to shaping socially conscious youth has earned him widespread respect within the educational community of Tripura.
Equally inspiring is Anupam Das, an NSS volunteer and student of Ramthakur College, Agartala, whose tireless efforts have made a lasting impact on environmental preservation and social welfare.
Driven by a passion for ecological protection, Das has undertaken extensive initiatives such as cleaning and restoring local water bodies — including reservoirs, rivers, and canals — and planting over 540 trees to promote afforestation and sustainability.
His exemplary work not only highlights the vital role of youth in environmental conservation but also embodies the true ethos of the NSS — service before self.
A post shared by the President’s Office on platform X (formerly Twitter) reflected the spirit of the event, stating:
“President Droupadi Murmu presented the MY Bharat – National Service Scheme Awards for the year 2022–23 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Award, instituted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 1993–94, honours and celebrates the outstanding contributions of youth in the fields of social service, community development, and nation-building.”
The recognition of Shyamal Dey and Anupam Das has sparked immense pride across Tripura’s academic circles and NSS community. Educators, students, and youth leaders have hailed their success as a powerful testament to the transformative potential of service-oriented education.
Many believe their achievements will motivate the next generation to embrace values of empathy, environmental stewardship, and civic duty.
Their accomplishments serve as a resounding reminder that meaningful change begins with selfless action. Through their unwavering dedication, Tripura’s change-makers are not only elevating the state’s reputation but also contributing to the vision of a compassionate, sustainable, and progressive India.
