Agartala, Feb 2: The 3rd Regional Workshop of the State Support Mission (SSM), organised by NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Government of Tripura and the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) will be held in Agartala on Tuesday, officials said.

The workshop, to be held at the Polo Hotel, will bring together representatives from Eastern and North-Eastern States and Union Territories to facilitate peer learning, cross-sharing of best practices and discussions on national and state development priorities under the SSM framework .

The workshop will be attended by the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, senior officials of the State Government including the Chief Secretary, Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and the CEO of TIFT, along with senior leadership and technical officials from NITI Aayog, including a Member of the Aayog and the Mission Director of SSM. Senior officers from participating States and UTs will also take part.

Launched in 2022 as a centrally sponsored initiative of NITI Aayog, the State Support Mission aims to strengthen institutional capacities of States and UTs to achieve sustained and inclusive socio-economic development, aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

A core component of the Mission is the establishment and strengthening of State Institutions for Transformation (SITs) or reorienting existing planning bodies into evidence-driven policy institutions.

More than 32 States and UTs have so far notified or operationalised their SITs, though they remain at varying stages of development. To address this diversity, NITI Aayog has institutionalised regional workshops as platforms for collaborative problem-solving and knowledge exchange. Earlier workshops were held in Dehradun for Northern States in June 2025 and Pune for Southern and Western regions in September 2025 .

The Agartala workshop will see participation from 14 States and UTs, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands .

The decision to host the regional meet in Tripura reflects NITI Aayog’s confidence in the State’s growing policy capacity.

The Economic Survey 2025–26, tabled in Parliament on January 29, has also made specific reference to Tripura’s governance initiatives, with TIFT being cited among leading State Institutions for Transformation in the country like GRIT (Gujarat), MITRA (Maharashtra) and SETU Aayog (Uttarakhand).
