Prez Honours Tripura Student, Teacher with National NSS Awards
Anupam Das, An Environmental Champion from Ramthakur College Wins National Honour
Agartala Oct 7: While people across Tripura were immersed in the festive spirit of Kojagari Lakshmi Puja, a young student and a Teacher from the state brought pride and honour by shining on the national stage.
Anupam Das, a student and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteer from Ramthakur College, Agartala and Shyamal Dey, a teacher and NSS Programme Officer at Bani Vidyapith Higher Secondary Girls’ School were conferred with the prestigious MY Bharat–National Service Scheme Award for the year 2022–23 at Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 6, 2025.
The award was presented by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in recognition of his exemplary service and dedication.

According to official sources, Anupam Das has made remarkable contributions to environmental conservation and community welfare as part of his NSS activities. He played a key role in the cleaning and preservation of reservoirs, rivers, canals, and other water bodies, thereby contributing to the protection of vital natural resources. In addition, Das has actively promoted afforestation efforts by planting 540 trees, reflecting his deep commitment to environmental sustainability.
An X (formerly Twitter) post from the President’s Office stated:
“President Droupadi Murmu presented the MY Bharat – National Service Scheme Awards for the year 2022-23 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Award, instituted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 1993-94, honours and celebrates the outstanding contributions of youth in the fields of social service, community development, and nation-building.”

The MY Bharat–National Service Scheme (NSS) is one of the flagship programmes of the Government of India, launched in 1969 during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. It aims to foster personality development and character building among students through voluntary community service.
The MY Bharat–NSS Award, established by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, recognises young individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to social service, community upliftment, and nation-building—values that Anupam Das has embodied through his dedicated efforts in Tripura.
