TGB celebrates golden jubilee of trust and excellence in modern banking services
Agartala, Dec 21: Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) celebrated its golden jubilee on Sunday, marking 50 years of service built on people’s trust, customer care and excellence in banking services. The programme was held at RS Bhawan in Agartala.
Founded in 1976, TGB has grown into a key institution supporting the state’s rural economy. The bank now operates 150 branches and 12 Ultra Small Branches (USBs) across Tripura, reaching customers even in remote areas.
Inaugurating the event, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy praised TGB for its consistent contribution to rural development. He said the bank has shown steady progress and has performed well compared to other Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).
The Finance Minister said that in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive growth, TGB has been delivering modern banking services to people living in far-flung areas. He also appreciated the bank’s role in ensuring that government welfare schemes reach the last mile.
Referring to the Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio, Singha Roy said that while the state’s overall CD ratio is around 50 percent, TGB has achieved 41 percent, which is higher than several other banks. This, he said, reflects the bank’s strong lending support to the local economy.
Highlighting the government’s focus on women empowerment through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), the Finance Minister said the number of SHGs has increased from about 4,150 in 2018 to more than 56,000 now, involving over 5.6 lakh women. He lauded TGB for playing an important role in financing and supporting SHGs and suggested increasing the number of ATMs for better customer service.
The programme was attended by Krishnendu Chakravertty, IGP (Intelligence & Security), Tripura Police; Surindra Nidar, General Manager and Officer-in-Charge, RBI Agartala; Diganta Kumar Das, Deputy General Manager, NABARD Tripura Regional Office; Satyendra Singh, Chairman, Tripura Gramin Bank; and Kaushik Chattopadhay, General Manager, Punjab National Bank, Head Office, New Delhi, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Surindra Nidar credited the dedication of TGB employees for taking modern banking services to people across the state. He said the bank has truly emerged as a “People’s Bank,” benefiting all sections of society.

Sharing similar views, Krishnendu Chakravertty spoke about the strong bond between the bank and common people, which has contributed to TGB’s success over the years.
Earlier, TGB Chairman Satyendra Singh spoke about the bank’s journey and its efforts to adapt to changes in technology and the banking sector. NABARD’s Diganta Kumar Das also addressed the gathering.
A key highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of the founder members of Tripura Gramin Bank. The bank also honoured eight successful entrepreneurs from all eight districts of the state.
As part of the golden jubilee celebrations, TGB sanctioned loans worth ₹5.97 crore to eight entrepreneurs under a Mega Credit Delivery Ceremony.
