Trinamool Congress were reportedly stopped  at Dharmanagar from conducting a poll rally on Saturday, but managed to hold a street corner in Ambassa.

MP Sushmita Deb and convener of TMC, SubalBhowmik went to Dharmanagar today to address a public meeting in support of the party candidates for the Dharmanagar Municipal Council Polls. However, “at the last moment, Police administration stopped us from holding the meeting”, alleged Sushmita Deb and criticized Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb who is also the Home Minister of the State.

“The main intention of BJP is to prevent the TMC leaders and supporters to carry out a campaign for ensuing Civic Body Polls. Where ever the civic body polls would be held, BJP is trying to stop TMC. Despite having the Supreme Court verdict in favour of the TMC, the party is unable to do campaigning – Tripura Police have turned into a toy of Biplab Deb”, Sushmita Deb alleged.

Meantime, Sushmita Deb said, TMC has lodged as many as 18 cases, so far, pertaining to violation of the Model Code of Conduct and for preventing the Opposition parties from campaigning.

However, TMC leaders including MP Susmita Dev, Tollywood actress Saayoni Ghosh and others visited Ambasa held a street corner at Ambassa in support of their candidates for the Ambasa local body poll today.

Later, speaking to the media, Sushmita Deb alleged, the democracy is being throttled by the present state government. Left parties who ruled the state are now outdated – TMC is the only hope for restoring democracy and ensure rights of people.

Besides, she raised the issue of the farm laws which were repealed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday last. She said that the laws were repealed by the central government as the elections are ahead in some states.
