The people of Kalai Community of Tripura are set to observe one of the biggest traditional programmes -Kalai Rai Balma Panda – at Jampuijala from Friday.
With the initiative of the Kalai Samaj of Tripura, the 153rd State Level Kalai Rai Balma Panda will be organized tomorrow evening at Sudhanya Debbarma Memorial HS School playground in Jampuijala subdivision, Sepahijala district, Tripura.
The programme will end on November 20 next.
Kalai Rai Balma Panda is an ancient tradition of the Kalai Community in which the new Samaj Pati (leader of the community) is being crowned. This centuries-old traditional practice is one of the biggest programme of the Kalai Community of Tripura.
Kalai Rai Balma Panda means Kalai King Carrying Ceremony in simple terms.
As the saying goes, the Udaipur King handed over a ceremonious sword to the Kalai community. During the programme, the seven ‘ministers’ of the Kalai community from all over the State come together to make rules for the community as well as select the new Samaj Pati. The programme ends with the retiring king being taken on the Thang Chang – the chariot to his home.
The Kalai people will enthrone their new Samaj Pati in their traditional custom in the presence of all the social leaders who will administrate the entre Kalai Samaj for the next 3 years.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma, Revenue Minister NC Debbarma, Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, ICA Minister Sushanta Choudhury, TTAADC Advisory Committee chairman Pradyot Kishore Dev Varma, CEM of TTAADC Purna Chandra Jamatia, and other dignitaries will participate in the programme.
