The All Tripura Blind Association (ATBA) has demanded a hike in disability allowance of the visually challenged employees and a 4 percent reservation for persons with disabilities in case of promotion. The Association also demanded the provision of free treatment facilities to visually challenged patients including all Medical investigations in govt. hospitals

 

A delegation of the Association submitted a charter of demands to the Chief Secretary in Agartala on Thursday for the upliftment of visually challenged persons in the State.

 

Later, speaking to the media, the general secretary of the ATBA said, “The disability allowance of the visually challenged employees should be at least 6000 Rs. like central government”.  The secretary also said, “The rules need to be simplified for the visually challenged in the recruitment process. Besides, a 4 percent Reservation for persons with disabilities should be introduced in case of Promotion”.

 

The Association also demanded providing the stipends regularly among the college and university-going visually challenged students.

 

The ATBA demanded establishing a separate department along with a full-time Commissioner for the upliftment of differently able persons immediately.

 

The Association submitted a list of 19 demands to the Chief Secretary. The demand list also included relating to the Braile Press, providing free treatment, implementation of  “Right for the persons with Disabilities Act — 2016” in Tripura etc.

 

The Association also made demands pertaining to Braille Press and scope for training on self-employment.

 

The ATBA members demanded Setting up a Braille Press in Tripura. so that all the visually challenged can get all kinds of books according to their necessity at the earliest.  Also, they demanded setting up such an institute in the State so that the blind persons can get various computer training as well as training for self-employment and other developmental purposes.
