Incessant rainfall since Wednesday came as bane for people of Sepahijala and Khowai districts. Heavy downpour also affected parts of Gomati district. The heavy downpour submerged several residential areas as well as crop fields and triggered landslides causing damage to dwellings. Even as flash flood caused by rains wrecked havoc in parts of the State, there is no report of any death till 7pm. 

As the situation worsened at areas under Bishalgarh sub-division under Sepahijala since early Thursday, State unit of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with the administration started evacuating distressed people from the inundated areas.

Along with several families, NDRF team rescued a three-month old baby. Situation in the subdivision remained critical as water level of Bijoy River and several rivulets were rising till the evening.

In Khowai district, Kalyanpur and Teliamura sub-divisions were the worst affected. Crops in large scale were reported to be damaged as well as several houses were also affected due to the heavy shower. Landslides in Mungiyakami block under Teliamura subdivision rendered several houses damaged and people homeless. In Ampi area under Gomati district, landslides hit the road connectivity.

As per the official record, a total of 2137 people of 556 families took shelter in 20 makeshift relief camps in Sepahijala and Khowai districts. More than 600 houses were either partially or severely or completely damaged due to onslaught of incessant rainfalls.

Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma visited the flash flood affected Charilam area under Sepahijala Distruct and interacted with the inmates of relief camps. The DM of the District is also monitoring the situation.

In Teliamura sub-division, Chief Whip of Tripura State Assembly, Kalyani Roy and the Khowai DM visited the affected areas and relief camps as well as took stock of the situation.

Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy also visited flash flood affected areas under Udaipur subdivision in Gomati district while MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury took stock of the prevailing situation in Kalyanpur.
