While in quest of a revival path visiting AICC in-charge Dr Ajay Kumar during his Sonamura visit on Tuesday found similarity between the political visions or perspectives of the Congress and TIPRA Motha. He, however, restrained self from elaborating on this any further.
The Political circle, soon, became abuzz with the statement in the Sonamura sub-division as well as in other areas. Dr Kumar, however, spared even a word on forging electoral alliance with Motha.
Incidentally, Tipra Motha is led by Pradyot Kishore Debbarman who was the state president of Tripura Pradesh Congress during last Lok Sabha Polls. Under the leadership of Debbarman, Congress candidates in both of the LS seats were defeated but its vote share increased significantly compared to its performance in 2018 Assembly polls when the party failed to open its account.
After the polls, Debbarman quit Congress – and Congress started losing its influences. In the District Council polls, depletion of organizational base among the indigenous communities became obvious. In the District Council Polls, vote share of Congress plummeted considerably.
In view of present situation, the Political relevance of Congress is at stake. At this juncture, visit of Dr Ajay Kumar is expected to infuse some confidence for reviving the Congress Party in the State.
During his maiden State visit after being appointed as in-charge of Tripura, Dr Kumar took part in a rally at Sonamura today and held meetings with the district and sub-division leaders. State Congress Chief Pijush Kanti Biswas and leaders of Congress frontal organizations accompanied him.
He pointed out, persons having acceptability in the society and who are transparent as well as loyal to the party would be eligible to get important posts in the party.
He also cautioned the party leaders against creation of division and individualistic attitudes in the party.
Overall, Dr Kumar asked the State Congress leaders and workers to maintain discipline and remain united in the struggle of gaining grounds in Tripura.
