The birthday of Lord Krishna, ‘Janmashtami’ was celebrated across the State. Low key festivities marked the celebration for second successive years due to Covid scare and restrictions. However, many of the revelers were found roaming around without wearing masks.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb greeted the people of the State on the occasion. He prayed to the Lord Krishna for the happiness, prosperity and welfare of people.
People of Agartala woke up to a unique sort of celebration of Janmashtami today morning. Volunteers of Agartala Cycle Club and ISKCON jointly held a cycle rally. The objective was to generate awareness on pollution free environment. Children dressed like ‘Radha’ and ‘Krishna’ paddled through the city.
Detailing the purpose of holding a cycle rally, organizers said, pollution is causing a severe threat to our health. Increased use of cars, vehicles and bikes is increasing the pollution around us. By using eco-friendly cycles, we can reduce uses of fuel induced vehicles and curb pollution.
Children well choreographed as ‘Radha’ and ‘Krishna’ in cycles grabbed the attention of common people.
As part of the celebrations, puja and prayers were held as well as Bhagabat path (Reading from Holy Scripture, the Bhagabat) and Kirtans were conducted in temples in the State.
Speaking to the media, principal of Agartala Jagannath Jew Temple Bhakti Kamal Baishnab Maharaj said, “On the occasion of Janmashtami, Nandanoutsav has been arranged. Besides, Pujas were offered to Lord Krishna. Sessions of Bhagabat Path and other rituals were part of the celebration”.
Krishna Janmashtami was also celebrated in ISKCON and Srikrishna Temple in Agartala today.
Temples were illuminated and decorated on this occasion. In the evening, large number of revelers visited Temples.
However, the worrying factor was that many of the revelers were not using masks. With the threat of third wave of Covid is looming large, mask-less people will make the situation worse and unless, the administration wakes up now, it will be a herculean task for the State to handle the crowd during coming festive period.
