Supporters of Tripura Pradesh Congress condemned and protested the Lakhimpur incident at Kailashahar under Unakoti in Tripura on Tuesday.
The protest was led by the newly appointed Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Birjit Sinha, Unakoti district Congress president Md. Badruzzaman and other leaders.
Raising voice condemning the incident, Unakoti District Congress supporters blocked the Kailashahar-Kumarghat road. As a result, traffic on the both sides of the road came to a grinding halt.
Apart from protesting Lakhimpur incident, the Congress supporters also protested the detention of its party leader Priyanka Gandhi. While they demanded immediate release of Gandhi, the Congress supporters sought arrest of the Minister’s son who reportedly involved in the Lakhimpur violence.
Congress leaders came down heavily on the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the UP Chief Minister for putting Priyanka Gandhi on detention while the UP Police is yet to arrest the accused – son of a Minister.
The party workers and supporters took part in the protest and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah and UP Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath.
Birjit Sinha said that the Congress supporters on Tuesday staged the protest in front of all the DM offices of all the eight districts of Tripura.
He slammed the BJP and alleged out of fear the BJP leaderships are trying to restrict the Congress leaderships from reaching the affected farmers who are protesting against the farm bills of the central government.
Sinha however informed media that the protest programmes of Congress shall continue across the state in near future.
