TIPRA Motha chairman, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman hailed the decision of IPFT leader Brishaketu Debbarma’s decision to tender resignation from the Assembly membership recently. The Motha chiarman went to meet Brishaketu at his house on Thursday.  Will other IPFT leaders and MLA follow the cue? Will Motha emerge as a major political powerhouse in State Politics?

Even as Brishaketu Debbarma’s resignation is yet to be accepted by the Speaker of the Assembly due to ‘procedural gap’, it appears Brishaketu Debbarma has decided to severe his relation with the IPFT.

Speaking to the media, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman said, “I hail the decision of Brishaketu as he put his ideological stand before the party post. He supported our Greater Tipraland demand as no party was raising voices in the Assembly for our demand and the Government is also maintaining silence, a person like Brishaketu decided to resign”.

Immediately after Brishaketu Debbarma submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker through a messenger, speculation was running high the he would join Motha. With Pradyot Kishore Debbarman visit to his house, the speculation seems to be materialized soon.

Political circle of the City alleged IPFT led by veteran NC Debbarma along with party’s general secretary Mever Kumar Jamatia are in a monopolistic manner making it difficult for other IPFT MLAs or leaders to vent their opinions. With a humiliating defeat in the hands of TIPRA Motha in recent District Council Polls further deepened the frustrations among a section of IPFT leaders. Many people believe that several other prominent IPFT leaders and/or MLAs may quit the party due to monopolistic style of NC Debbarma and Jamatia.

Anger against NC Debbarma was such that he was gheraoed in his own constituency recently by the angry people – believed to be supporters of Motha.

With State Assembly Polls are scheduled to be held in one-and-half years and Motha is the new emerging force of Indigenous communities, IPFT is finding it difficult to keep the party intact as well as recover the lost grounds in its stronghold hill areas.

The moot point is centered over as to how IPFT’s ally BJP will look into the emerging political situation – will it try to pull out IPFT? After Pradyot Kishore Debbarma made his intention clear today by visiting Brishaketu it appears, ground work for the battle for next Assembly polls has started.
