In an attempt to create religious hatred in Tripura, at least 128 social media posts and few links with fake information, photos and videos were circulated both from inside as well as outside the country.
According to a press release issued by Tripura Police on Saturday, it was mentioned, “So far 128 social media posts have been identified comprising 94 twitter posts, 32 facebook posts and 02 youtube posts which were spreading malicious propaganda for creating hatred between religious communities”.
Besides, “There is at least one post initiated by IAM Council against which information has been received about its link with Jel network of Pakistan and supporting Taliban and lobbying with foreign organisation against India in connivance with ISI. It is under further investigation. There are at least 14 links which have originated from outside India revealing the conspiracy hatched outside India as well for promoting hatred between religious groups and creating disturbances”, the press release read.
Till now 47 twitter posts and 01 youtube posts has been removed. Legal steps have been taken for removal of the remaining posts.
Some of those social media posts have used fake photographs, distorted news contents and other statements to create a sense of distrust among communities in Tripura and maligning the reputation of peace loving inhabitants of Tripura. So far 39 social media post with fake photographs and 04 distorted news contents have been identified and some posts have suspected objectionable contents.
Accordingly, for all these post notices have been served for removing the posts to concern social media platform. Till now 47 twitter posts and 01 youtube posts has been removed. Legal steps have been taken for removal of the remaining posts.
A total of 7 notices were served including to 04 lawyers who reportedly practicing in the Supreme Court. One report submitted by the group under the banner of Lawyers for Democracy has been seized in connection with a case.
In this report there is a design to draw out of proportion the alleged attack upon the muslim religious places in Tripura and in the background note they tried to mislead by stating that Tripura was without any rule after its merger in 1949 till July 1963 and it amounts to disrupt the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India, the press release read.
