Senior BJP Leaders Discuss Election Preparations

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, former Chief Minister and West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb, cabinet ministers, MLAs and leaders of various party frontal organisations attended the meeting.

Rabindra Raju, the BJP’s organisational general secretary for Assam and Tripura, and newly appointed state Prabhari Mriganka Deo Barman also participated. Selected party leaders joined the discussions on the organisation’s electoral preparations and political activities.

Speaking to reporters, Dr Manik Saha said the meeting focused on two principal issues: preparations for the urban local body elections and the implementation of central government programmes.

The discussions aimed to establish the party’s priorities ahead of the civic polls and coordinate political activities in accordance with directions from the national leadership.

BJP Finalises Seven Political Campaigns

Biplab Kumar Deb, the BJP’s national general secretary, said the meeting would examine the party’s roadmap for the urban local body elections.

He confirmed that the party had finalised seven political programmes and campaigns for implementation in phases across Tripura.

Deb said the campaigns would seek to counter what the BJP considers attempts to destabilise the country and weaken its democratic institutions. He accused communist forces of undermining established institutions through political movements.

Referring to protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Deb alleged that the opposition was attempting to weaken the country’s institutional framework, including Parliament and the judiciary.

He said the party had prepared a detailed campaign plan to counter these efforts. The state leadership would announce the programmes publicly, he added.

According to Deb, the proposed activities would include foot marches, interactions with young voters and press conferences in different parts of Tripura. The party plans to conduct these programmes in phases as part of its wider political outreach.

Abhishek Debroy Predicts Victory Across Civic Bodies

BJP Tripura Pradesh president Abhishek Debroy expressed confidence that the party would win all municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats in the upcoming urban local body elections.

Speaking to the media before the meeting, Debroy said the BJP had started preparing for the polls and would announce its candidates soon. However, he did not specify a date for releasing the list.

“We are 100 per cent confident of victory,” he said.

Debroy attributed the party’s confidence to the development initiatives undertaken by the state government under Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.

He cited changes in Agartala over the past decade and highlighted development activities in Udaipur and Dharmanagar. He also referred to proposed development plans for Khowai.

The BJP president pointed to road connectivity and other infrastructure projects as evidence of the government’s work. However, he acknowledged that some projects remained incomplete.

Debroy said work on roads in Khowai and national highways had begun. He added that infrastructure projects required time to reach completion.

BJP Defends Special Intensive Revision

Debroy defended the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, describing it as a normal constitutional process.

He pointed out that electoral roll revisions had also taken place under previous Congress and CPIM governments. He accused the Congress and CPIM of misleading the public about the exercise for political gain.

The BJP state president said his party would explain its position to voters and take its message across the state.

He also alleged that the Congress and CPIM were joining hands in an effort to regain political power. According to Debroy, their actions reflected their own political interests.

He expressed confidence that voters would respond to the opposition through democratic means.

The issue of electoral roll revision featured alongside civic poll preparations in the BJP’s broader political agenda. Deb’s remarks also indicated that the party intends to make opposition protests a focus of its planned campaigns.

BJP Dismisses Concerns Over Factionalism

Responding to questions about whether internal factionalism could affect the party’s electoral prospects, Debroy stressed the importance of organisational discipline.
