Ompi, August 15: Ompi Nagar RD Block in Gomati district celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with a mega programme on Saturday. The event also featured a special felicitation ceremony for toppers and other achievers.
Officials, dignitaries, block staff, students, parents and local residents attended the programme at the Ompi Nagar RD Block premises. Ompi Block BDO Ruatfela Darlong guided and supervised the event.
Flag Hoisting Marks Celebration
The programme began with the National Anthem. Ampi Assembly constituency MLA Pathan Lal Jamatia hoisted the national flag at the venue.
The gathering then witnessed a series of activities linked to Independence Day. Speakers highlighted the importance of August 15 and the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle.
Ampi 23 constituency MDC Kamal Kalai addressed the participating students. He said Independence Day commemorates India’s freedom from nearly 200 years of British colonial rule.
Kalai also highlighted the importance of unity, democracy and civic responsibility. He urged young people to understand the country’s history and respect the values associated with freedom.
