The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up its month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan in Tripura with a series of public service initiatives in Agartala. On Sunday, the party organised a tree plantation programme and a cleanliness drive in Ward 31 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation.

The campaign, launched to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, will continue from September 17 to October 17. The BJP says the programme focuses on service-oriented activities rather than birthday celebrations alone.

Tree Plantation Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’

The day’s programme began at the Ward 31 office premises with a tree plantation drive under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.

The initiative followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to plant trees in the name of one’s mother. Organisers highlighted environmental protection and the need to increase green cover.

The programme also carried a message for future generations. The organisers said tree plantation can help create a healthier and cleaner environment for the coming years.

The activity brought together BJP leaders, workers and local representatives from the Ward 31 area.

Cleanliness Drive at Kali Temple

The tree plantation programme was followed by a cleanliness drive at the Sri Sri Chhinnamasta Kali Temple, located next to the Ward 31 office.

Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee participated in the campaign and took up a broom to clean the temple premises. BJP workers also joined the drive and cleaned the surrounding areas.

The campaign aimed to promote cleanliness among residents. It also sought to raise awareness about maintaining clean surroundings and protecting the environment.

Rajib Bhattacharjee Explains Campaign Focus

Addressing party workers and local residents during the event, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee elaborated on the ideological foundation and objective of the month-long campaign.

“As everyone is already aware, we celebrated the birthday of our esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the entire country on September 17,” said MP Rajib Bhattacharjee. “Following this, our party and government decided to observe a month-long ‘Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan’ from September 17 to October 17. Under this campaign, we have taken up various service-oriented initiatives ranging from tree plantation and cleanliness drives to direct outreach and rapport-building with government scheme beneficiaries.”

Highlighting the true essence of celebrating leadership through public service, Bhattacharjee remarked that cutting cakes or holding standard celebrations is secondary to serving the masses.

“Today, we have all gathered here in Ward No. 31 under the 9-Banamalipur Mandal to give a meaningful shape to this campaign through tree plantation under the Prime Minister’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Kanh’ slogan, alongside the cleanliness drive at the Trinath Temple,” he added. “Shortly, we are also engaging with families who received homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to understand their livelihood experiences.”

Emphasizing the pro-people philosophy of the current administration, Bhattacharjee noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance is dedicated to the common citizen, spanning from hardworking laborers and farmers to marginalized sections of society.

“The BJP does not believe in merely holding power; it believes in bringing about societal transformation. We have undertaken these expanded efforts to serve society and bring these developmental achievements to the forefront,” Bhattacharjee asserted. “Seeing the tremendous enthusiasm among our karyakartas, mandal president, corporate representatives, and local functionaries today, we are fully committed to translating the path shown by PM Modi—where ‘Sewa hi Sangathan’ (Service is our Organization)—into concrete reality.”

Outreach to PMAY Beneficiaries

The BJP also plans to connect with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana as part of the programme.

Bhattacharjee said party workers would meet some beneficiaries who received houses under the scheme. They would seek information about how the beneficiaries received the houses and learn about their lives and livelihoods.

The outreach reflects another stated objective of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan — establishing direct contact with people who have benefited from government schemes.

‘Service, Not Just Celebration’

Bhattacharjee said the campaign should not remain limited to birthday celebrations.

He argued that the Prime Minister’s birthday has greater significance in serving people. The RS MP described the Narendra Modi government as people-focused and said it had worked for poor and hardworking people, workers, and farmers.

He also said the BJP does not believe that political power alone should remain the objective. According to him, the party seeks social change through greater engagement with society.

Bhattacharjee said he saw strong enthusiasm among BJP workers during the Ward 31 programme. He said the participation of the Mandal president, corporator and other party workers reflected their effort to follow the path of service advocated by Prime Minister Modi.

Ward 31 corporator Anjana Das, Banamalipur Assembly constituency’s Mandal president Arindam Chowdhury and other BJP leaders and workers attended the programme.
