Talented and young engineers from Tripura and other NE States could soon get a direct route to opportunities in India’s growing private space sector, as Skyroot Aerospace plans a dedicated talent portal for Northeast India. This was revealed during a one-day technology and startup workshop in Agartala on August 17.
Key Takeaways:
- Skyroot Aerospace will create a dedicated talent channel for engineers and young talent from Northeast India.
- Tejaswi Bhagavatula urged Tripura entrepreneurs to build ambitious startups without leaving the state.
- He highlighted digital connectivity and Tripura’s startup ecosystem as key advantages for young innovators.
Agartala, August 17: Skyroot Aerospace plans to create a dedicated talent channel for young engineers and technology professionals from Northeast India, company representative Tejaswi Bhagavatula said at a startup and technology workshop in Agartala on August 17.
Bhagavatula made the announcement while speaking at a one-day workshop organised by the Directorate of Information Technology (DIT), Tripura, in collaboration with T-Hub. He urged young people in Tripura to pursue ambitious ideas and use digital platforms to build businesses from the state.
He said Skyroot wants more young people from the Northeast to join the company and contribute to its future space technology projects.
Skyroot to Create Northeast Talent Connect
Bhagavatula announced a dedicated talent initiative for the Northeast during her address.
He said aspiring engineers and other talent can contact northeast@skyroot.in to share their profiles, ideas and interests. A dedicated person from Skyroot will engage with applicants and explore suitable opportunities.
“More people from Northeast and Agartala” should engage with the company, Bhagavatula said.
He added that people from the Northeast have already contributed to rocket development efforts of the Skyroot Aerospace. The company now wants to expand that participation.
Bhagavatula expressed hope that young engineers from Tripura and other northeastern states could become part of the team working on Skyroot’s next rocket.
Skyroot Story Shows Power of Big Dreams
Bhagavatula used Skyroot’s journey to explain how ambitious ideas can create new industries.
Recalling the journey, he said two engineers from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) left their secure careers to pursue the dream of building and launching rockets through a private company.
At the time, India did not have a clear regulatory framework that enabled private companies to undertake such space activities.
The policy environment later changed as the government adopted a more proactive approach towards private participation and innovation in the space sector.
Bhagavatula said the experience shows how ambitious ideas can also drive policy and ecosystem changes.
He highlighted the transformation of Skyroot from a small startup into a company with around 1,500 employees.

Bhagavatula also pointed to its billion-dollar valuation as evidence of the growing confidence in India’s private space sector.
However, he said the company’s larger achievement lies in demonstrating that Indian startups can take on highly complex technological challenges.
Young Engineers Built Space Expertise
According to Bhagavatula, Skyroot built its engineering team while developing expertise in a relatively new private space sector.
He said many engineers joined the company from conventional engineering disciplines such as electrical and mechanical engineering.
They then developed specialised knowledge in rockets and space technology through their work.
Bhagavatula said Skyroot achieved its progress despite having limited resources and a relatively young workforce.
He credited the startup ecosystem for helping the company develop and scale.
He also acknowledged T-Hub’s role in supporting Skyroot during its early journey. The company, he said, was among the early startups to emerge from the ecosystem and later become a unicorn.
Tripura Can Build Startups From Home
Bhagavatula urged Tripura’s young entrepreneurs not to view geography as a barrier.
He said entrepreneurs no longer need to relocate to major technology hubs to find opportunities.
“In this digital world, it really doesn’t matter when you’re in Hyderabad or in Tripura,” Bhagavatula said.
Digital connectivity allows entrepreneurs to share ideas, communicate with investors and collaborate with companies from almost anywhere, he added.
The Skyroot VP encouraged participants to use social media and other digital platforms to showcase their ideas.
Bhagavatula also referred to a new startup portal being developed in Tripura. He urged entrepreneurs to use the platform to submit their ideas and connect with the wider ecosystem.
Tripura’s Location Can Be an Advantage
The VP of Skyroot also highlighted what she described as the advantages of building startups from Tripura.
Bhagavatula compared the state with large urban centres where traffic, long commutes and pollution can consume considerable time.
Tripura, he said, offers a cleaner and less congested environment. Young entrepreneurs can use that advantage to focus more on innovation and business development.
He urged participants to stop viewing Tripura as a distant location that requires them to move elsewhere for opportunities.
Instead, he asked them to use digital tools and local infrastructure to build companies from the state.
Call to Dream Bigger
Bhagavatula asked the participants to think about their most ambitious ideas after returning home.
He encouraged them to pursue ideas that may initially appear difficult or even impossible.
The Skyroot representative said the growing startup ecosystem can provide entrepreneurs with access to mentors, government support and industry connections.
He also invited participants to continue discussions during an interactive session later in the workshop.
The message from Skyroot Aerospace was clear: Young talent from Tripura does not necessarily need to leave the state to participate in India’s technology revolution. With digital connectivity, startup support and industry partnerships, entrepreneurs can build ventures from Tripura and compete on a national scale.
