Repolling will take place in three Village Committee seats in Tripura on October 3, State Election Commissioner Dr. P. K. Chakraborty announced on Tuesday. Dr. Chakraborty made the announcement at a press conference at the Secretariat Press Conference Hall. He also released the final voter turnout figures for the Village Committee elections held on September 28.
Repolling scheduled in three seats
The State Election Commission will conduct repolling at Seat Nos. 3 and 4 of Gamaria Village Committee under Matabari RD Block.
Voters in Seat No. 4 of Paharpur Village Committee under Amarpur RD Block will also vote again.
The Commission has scheduled all three repolls for October 3.
The September 28 election covered 587 Village Committees. A total of 9,61,977 voters were eligible to cast their votes.
81.21% final voter turnout
The election recorded a final voter turnout of 81.21%, according to the State Election Commission.
At 4 PM on polling day, the initial turnout stood at around 79%. However, 10,850 voters were still waiting in queues at polling stations across the state.
The Commission later calculated the turnout at 81.01% based on reports submitted by presiding officers.
The final figure increased to 81.21% after the Commission added 6,628 EDC votes. Election officials, security personnel and other personnel engaged in election duties cast these votes before polling day.
The turnout figure therefore reflects both the votes cast at polling stations and the EDC votes.
Voting held for 2,950 seats
The nomination and withdrawal process left 1,644 candidates elected without contest.
Tipra Motha accounted for 1,561 of the uncontested candidates. The BJP had 81 such candidates. One CPI(M) candidate and one independent candidate also won unopposed.
Voting therefore took place for 2,950 seats across 44 RD Blocks.
A total of 8,176 candidates contested these seats.
The scale of the contest covered the 587 Village Committees that formed the electoral field for the September 28 polling.
Eight complaints received
Dr. Chakraborty said the law-and-order situation remained largely normal across Tripura during the election.
The State Election Commission received eight complaints from different political parties.
Most complaints involved allegations that polling agents faced obstruction while performing their duties.
The Commission has sought reports from observers and returning officers.
It has already disposed of some complaints after finding insufficient grounds for further action. The Commission will take necessary action on the remaining complaints after it receives the investigation reports.

Dr. Chakraborty thanked voters for their cooperation during the election process.
He also acknowledged the work of district election officials, returning officers, assistant returning officers, sector officers, presiding officers and polling officers.
The State Election Commissioner thanked the Home Department, Tripura Police, Tripura State Rifles, Central Armed Police Forces, Intelligence Bureau, Special Branch and other security agencies.
He credited their cooperation with helping the Commission conduct the election and maintain law and order.
State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen also attended the press conference.
