Agartala, November 21, 2019: A water treatment facility is set to usher double boon for rural people living in Churaibari area in North Tripura. The facility will cater drinik water needs and also pave way for forest tourism.
After a long agonizing wait, people of Churaibari are set to get drinking water supply facility – a huge water treatment facility, constructed at an expenditure of around Rs 4 crore, will soon be inaugurated. The facility will supply 10,000 gallon water every day. Common people will get potable water at a fee of Rs 25 per month.
In the Plant, water from nearby sprawling lake will be used for water treatment and then the treated water will be supplied to dwellings and the lake will be a major tourist destination.
Local sources said, nestled in serene natural ambience, the lake has multiple islands. The splendor and grandeur of the lake will mesmerize tourists. With effective marketing, the lake will emerge as one of the major tourist destinations in North Tripura.
“Fortunately, State Government has already initiated actions to promote Forest tourism based on the lake. It is truly a double boon for us. While plant will solve our drinking water crisis, the lake will create avenues for earning through ‘forest tourism”, commented a resident of east Churaibari.
Talking about the treatment plant, local sources said, inhabitants of Churaibari are facing acute water crisis for quite a long time. Especially, with onset of dry season, people of North Fulbari, Fulbari, East Fulbari, East Churaibari and Churaibari suffered a lot due to drinking water crisis.
A team comprising Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti Chairman Subrata Deb, executive engineer of DWS Animesh Das and other concerned persons inspected the Plant today.
Around three years ago, construction works of Water Treatment Plant started and works were completed this month. Meanwhile, works of setting network of water supply pipe lines have already been completed. Water from the Plant supplied through newly laid pipe lines as test drive.
The Plant was constructed on top of hillock – water is being pumped up from a lake of Forest Department – spread across 32 acre land. With everything is right place, people are waiting for double boon – drinking water supply and forest tourism.
