October 12, 2017: Himachal Pradesh will go to polls on 9th of next month in a single phase.
Announcing the poll schedule in New Delhi this evening, Chief Election Commissioner A K Joti said, the notification for the Assembly polls will be issued on 16th of this month and the last date for nomination is 23rd October.
Last day of withdrawal of candidature is 26th of this month.
He said, counting of votes will take place on 18th December. Mr Joti said, the model code of conduct for the Himalayan state has come into force with immediate effect.
He said, Electronic Voting Machines with VVPAT will be used in all the constituencies and voters will be able to see to whom they have cast their votes. The CEC said, Election Commission has made elaborate arrangement for conduct of free and fair polls.
Seven thousand five hundred twenty one polling booths will be set up for voting in 68 assembly constituencies.
Election Commission has also made an arrangement of all women polling booths. Two polling booths in every constituency will be manned by women. On pilot basis, voter turn out will be matched with VVPAT slips in one polling booth in every constituency of the State.
Three tier monitoring system will be put in place to check the menace of paid news. The term of Himachal Pradesh Assembly is ending on 7th January next year.
Replying to media query, the Chief Election Commissioner said, the poll schedule for Gujarat Assembly will be announced later saying it is not announced right now due to the existing rules on time limit for holding elections that is 46 days.
However he said, the election procedure in Gujarat will be completed by 18th December. Gujarat assembly is completing term on 22nd January.

Reacting to the announcement of poll schedule for state assembly elections, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that Congress party is fully prepared for elections and candidates will be announced very soon.
Opposition Leader Prem Kumar Dhumal has also welcomed this announcement and said that party is also ready for this election. (AIR News)
