ProMASS News Bureau: Feb 18, 2016:
A delegation comprising editors of TV news channels met Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi yesterday seeking a judicial probe into the alleged assault on media persons in Patiala House Court complex. Voicing concern, the members of the Broadcast Editors’ Association said the journalists had gone to cover the court proceedings following the arrest of JNU student Union leader with valid passes despite which they were assaulted by a group of people in black coats. The delegation also handed over a letter to Mr. Singh to press their demand.
Meanwhile, JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar has been sent to Tihar Jail and kept in a separate cell. Jail authorities have sounded a high security alert inside the prison complex, and are keeping a round-the-clock watch for safety of the student leader facing sedition charges.
The JNUSU president was arrested by Delhi Police last Friday, and has been booked under sedition charge in connection with an event at JNU where anti-national slogans were raised. He has been remanded to judicial custody till 2nd of March.
