The Supreme Court will today hear a plea seeking contempt action against three lawyers accused of beating JNU Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar and others at the Patiala House court complex. The court yesterday agreed to hear the matter after lawyer Prashant Bhushan sought an urgent hearing on the plea filed by another advocate.
The plea, which was filed in the apex court on Wednesday, sought suo motu contempt proceedings against lawyers Vikram Singh Chauhan, Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma on the ground that they have allegedly been caught on camera talking about the attacks. It also seeks a direction to set up a Special Investigation Team to probe the incidents. The petition, which also makes Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police as parties, said facts have come to light that there was blatant violation of the rule of law in the trial court premises.
