Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling and firing in RS Pura and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu district along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir today. One BSF Jawan attained martyrdom while another BSF jawan and at least three civilians including a woman have been injured in Pakistan’s shelling, AIR News Reported.
According to Defence sources, Pakistan’s forces started unprovoked shelling targeting BSF posts as well as civilian areas in Abdullian, Karotana Khurd, Arnia and Tubewell areas of RS Pura around 10 pm.
Later Pakistani forces also started heavy shelling in Kanachak and Pawgwal, Garkgwal and other areas of adjoining Akhnoor sector. BSF troops guarding the border are retaliating the Pakistan’s shelling strongly and giving befitting reply. Heavey exchange of fire is still continuing.
The martyred BSF jawan, Head Constable Sushil Kumar of Kurukshetra, Haryana, was critically injured in firing in R.S. Pura sector and succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital late night. More details are awaited.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today spoke to Border Security Force (BSF) Director General KK Sharma on Pakistani troops’ heavy shelling and firing in RS Pura and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu. In a tweet, he said BSF DG apprised him of the situation in border areas of Jammu region. Mr Singh said BSF is capable of giving befitting reply. The Home Minister saluted the bravery and sacrifice of BSF jawan Sushil Kumar who was martyred in RS Pura sector last night.
