Mar 17, 2017: The epitome of courage and strength – Kalpana Chawla is being remembered today on her birth anniversary. Kalpana Chawla was an Indian American Astronaut and first Indian women of Indian origin in space. Paying tributes to indomitable spirit, celebrities, politicians and common people, remembered India’s immortal daughter Kalpana Chawla.
Kalpana Chawla was born in Karnal in India on March 17, 1962. After obtaining doctorate in 1988 in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado, she joined NASA. Her first space mission was “Space Shuttle Columbia” flight STS-87 in 1997. It landed successfully on October 5, 1997.
She along with all the six crew members died in the “Space Shuttle Columbia” flight STS-107 disaster in February 1, 2003.
