July 27, 2017: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the former President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s memorial at Pei Karumbu in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu today on the second death anniversary of the former President. Mr Modi will unveil a statue of Dr. Kalam and will hoist the National flag at the memorial.
During his stay in Rameshwaran, Prime Minister will also interact with the family members of Dr. Kalam. Mr. Modi will flag off Kalam Sandesh Vahini, an exhibition bus which will travel across the country and reach Rashtrapati Bhavan on 15th of October, which marks the birth anniversary of the former President.
Later, Prime Minister will addresses a public rally at Mandapam and will inaugurate a number of welfare measures. He will also flag off a new express train connecting the pilgrimage towns of Rameswaram and Ayodhya and releases the Green Rameswaram Project initiated by the Kanyakumari-based Vivekananda Kendra.
Our correspondent reports that the majestic memorial for the missile man Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has been designed and built by the Defence Research and Development Organization. It has been established at a cost of about 20 crore rupees at the place where he was laid to rest two years back. It stands in an area spanning 2.11 acre land as a fitting tribute to the tall leader who inspired the whole nation to dream to be a developed country by 2020.
Besides inaugurating the Memorial, Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributes Long Liner Trawlers for Deep Sea Fishing. It will help fishermen to enhance their economic activity besides avoiding Palk Straits where they often get detained on charges of trespassing maritime borders. Close to Dr Kalam Memorial, moves are on to establish a Knowledge Centre. (AIR NEWS)
