Tripura Stresses Manufacturing-Led Growth
Agartala: The Tripura government on Friday renewed its focus on industrial expansion with Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha asserting that manufacturing and production-based industries are essential for accelerating the state’s economic progress.
Addressing the Governing Body meeting of the Investment Promotion Agency of Tripura at the Secretariat’s Conference Hall No. 2 in Agartala, the Chief Minister said Tripura now offers substantial opportunities for industrial investment and enterprise development.
The meeting mainly focused on industrialisation, attracting investors and generating employment opportunities for local youths.
According to the Chief Minister, regions and nations that achieved rapid economic progress largely depended on strong manufacturing sectors. He stated that Tripura must adopt a similar approach while utilising its natural and locally available resources.
Bamboo & Rubber Identified as Key Resources
During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the enormous industrial potential of Tripura’s bamboo and rubber sectors. He observed that the state possesses abundant raw materials that can support sustainable industrial development.
He also informed the meeting that several investors have recently shown interest in establishing industries in different sectors across Tripura. The government believes that new industrial units can significantly improve employment opportunities for youths.
The Chief Minister especially referred to the talents and skills of youths living in tribal-dominated and remote regions. He said proper skill development and efficient utilisation of local manpower could help establish industries even in interior parts of the state.
He instructed senior officials and departmental secretaries to take proactive initiatives to support such industrial expansion.

Officials discussed multiple proposals related to setting up industries in the SEZ area, which has emerged as one of the state’s important economic development zones due to its strategic connectivity and proximity to Bangladesh.
The meeting also reviewed a proposal to establish a 50-seat MBBS medical college at Kulai under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The proposed institution is expected to strengthen healthcare education infrastructure in the state while creating new opportunities in the education and healthcare sectors.

At the beginning of the session, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte presented a detailed overview of the agenda and proposals discussed during the meeting.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha emphasised the importance of developing industries by effectively utilising Tripura’s forest resources and local assets. He said industries based on local resources are more likely to succeed and sustain long-term growth.

He further stressed the need for greater participation of local communities in the industrial ecosystem. According to him, such involvement would strengthen Tripura’s economic self-reliance and simultaneously create employment opportunities for the people.
