Tripura Expands Healthcare Services Across Urban and Rural Areas

Agartala: Tripura’s healthcare sector has been strengthened through multiple initiatives aimed at improving specialised medical treatment and expanding grassroots health awareness across the state. New healthcare services have been introduced at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital, while disease prevention campaigns have also been intensified in rural regions.

The state government and the Health and Family Welfare Department have focused on both infrastructure expansion and community healthcare outreach. As a result, better treatment facilities for children and kidney patients are expected to become available within Tripura itself.

Pediatric Cardiology OPD Inaugurated at AGMC and GBP Hospital

A dedicated Pediatric Cardiology Outpatient Department (OPD) has been formally launched at the Super Speciality Block of AGMC and GBP Hospital in Agartala.

The facility was inaugurated by Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Kiran Gitte in the presence of senior doctors, faculty members, and hospital officials.

Officials stated that the new OPD would significantly strengthen pediatric super speciality healthcare services in Tripura. Advanced diagnosis and treatment for children suffering from heart-related ailments are expected to be provided through the new unit.

According to hospital authorities, the Pediatric Cardiology OPD will remain operational every Saturday. Earlier, many families had to travel outside Tripura for specialised pediatric cardiac consultations and treatment. However, the burden on patients and families is now expected to be reduced considerably.

The inauguration programme was attended by AGMC Principal Professor Dr. Tapan Majumdar, Medical Superintendent and HOD Dr. Bidhan Goswami, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Kanak Chowdhury, Cardiologists Dr. A.S. Trivedi and Dr. Rakesh Das, along with several department heads and faculty members.

Healthcare experts described the launch as a milestone in Tripura’s evolving medical infrastructure.

Officials informed that the first AV fistula camp, organised between April 22 and April 25 this year, successfully conducted surgeries on 32 patients.

The upcoming camp will be organised from May 20 to May 23 in view of the increasing number of kidney disease and renal failure patients in the state.

Screening of patients will start on May 20 from 4:30 PM. Those found medically suitable during screening will undergo AV fistula surgeries from May 21 onwards.

Alongside improving hospital-based treatment facilities, community-level awareness campaigns have also been strengthened in rural Tripura.

A special health awareness programme was recently organised at Rangauti School in Unakoti district under the initiative of Irani Primary Health Centre and local health workers.

The programme was conducted during a Milad Mahfil event attended by students, teachers, guardians and residents from nearby areas.

The awareness campaign mainly focused on measles prevention and dengue control ahead of the monsoon season.

Community Health Officer Rimmy Chowdhury of Rangauti Ayushman Arogya Mandir explained the symptoms associated with measles, including sudden fever, reddish skin rashes, cough, cold and eye redness.

Residents were requested to immediately report suspected cases to health centres or ASHA workers.

Health officials also stressed the importance of MR vaccination for children at nine months and one-and-a-half years of age to eliminate measles and rubella.

Dengue Prevention Measures Highlighted

Special attention was also given to mosquito-borne disease prevention. People were advised not to allow stagnant water to collect in flower pots, tyres, plastic containers or coconut shells.

Health workers highlighted that Aedes mosquitoes usually breed in clean stagnant water. Therefore, residents were encouraged to observe weekly “Dry Day” practices by emptying and cleaning water containers regularly.

Students were also encouraged to use mosquito nets and wear full-body covering clothes.
