The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) introduced the new stoppages following efforts by Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma and the State Government. The minister raised the long-pending demand before Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who extended support for the proposal. After reviewing the request, the railway authorities approved regular stoppages for the two trains at Mungiakami Railway Station.

Inaugural Ceremony Marks New Beginning

The new service officially began on July 6 night with an inauguration programme at Mungiakami Railway Station. The ceremony started at around 9.30 pm and drew the participation of local leaders, railway officials and residents.

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma inaugurated the new train stoppages by waving the green flag. MDC Utpal Debbarma, Badarpur Section Area Manager Birendra Kumar Meena, senior officials of the Northeast Frontier Railway and other invited guests also attended the event.

The inauguration created a festive atmosphere at the station. Local residents gathered in large numbers to witness what many described as the fulfilment of a long-standing public demand.

Two Express Trains Will Stop at Mungiakami

According to an official notification issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway, two express trains will now stop regularly at Mungiakami Railway Station.

The trains are:

  • Train No. 15649/15650 Agartalaโ€“Narangiโ€“Agartala Express
  • Train No. 15637/15638 Agartalaโ€“Khongsangโ€“Agartala Express

These services connect several important destinations across the Northeast. Their stoppage at Mungiakami will make rail travel easier for passengers who earlier had to travel to other stations to board express trains.

Long-Pending Demand Finally Fulfilled

Residents had demanded express train stoppages at Mungiakami Railway Station for several years. Students, government employees, business owners, daily commuters and patients repeatedly appealed for better railway access.

Until now, many passengers had to travel considerable distances to catch these trains. The absence of stoppages increased travel costs and consumed valuable time.

The new arrangement removes that inconvenience. Passengers can now board and disembark at their nearest railway station, making journeys more comfortable and affordable.

Minister Highlights Public Benefits

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Bikash Debbarma said the decision would benefit not only Mungiakami but also many surrounding villages.

He said students travelling for higher education would save time every day. Office-goers would find commuting easier. Patients travelling for medical treatment would also receive significant relief because they would no longer need to travel to distant railway stations before beginning their journeys.

The minister added that the new stoppages would reduce travel expenses and ease the difficulties that local residents had faced for many years.

Better Rail Connectivity Can Drive Local Growth

Bikash Debbarma also stressed the importance of expanding railway services in remote regions.

He said improved rail connectivity creates new opportunities for economic development. Better transportation encourages business activities, strengthens rural markets and makes movement of people easier. It also supports tourism by providing convenient access to lesser-known destinations.

According to the minister, railway infrastructure plays an important role in improving the quality of life in rural and tribal areas. He assured residents that he would continue to pursue further expansion of railway services for the region.

Residents Welcome the Decision

Local residents welcomed the Northeast Frontier Railway’s decision and thanked the state and central governments for responding to their long-standing demand.

Many described the new stoppages as a major achievement for the region. They believe improved rail access will benefit every section of society, especially students, traders, employees and families who travel frequently.

Residents also expressed hope that more long-distance and important trains would receive stoppages at Mungiakami Railway Station in the future.

New Opportunities for the Region

The introduction of regular express train stoppages is expected to generate wider social and economic benefits. Better connectivity can improve access to educational institutions, healthcare facilities and employment opportunities. It can also encourage tourism and facilitate the movement of goods, helping local businesses expand.

For Mungiakami and the surrounding areas, the railway decision represents more than an additional train stoppage. It marks a significant improvement in public infrastructure and reflects the growing importance of the region within transport network in Tripura.

With the new stoppages now operational, residents expect faster, more convenient and affordable rail travel. They also see the development as an important milestone that could pave the way for additional railway services and further infrastructure investment in the years ahead.
