Preventive Healthcare Drive
Agartala: The Tripura government has placed preventive healthcare at the centre of its public welfare agenda, with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announcing an ambitious annual health screening programme aimed at reducing the burden of lifestyle diseases across the state.
Speaking at Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur after inaugurating 11 development projects worth ₹105.73 crore in Gomati district on Thursday, the Chief Minister said improving public health remains one of the government’s highest priorities alongside infrastructure and welfare.
Dr. Saha said the state government continues to pursue development by following the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that welfare programmes and public service delivery remain key areas of focus.
Annual Screening to Detect Diseases Early
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cancer, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and alcoholic fatty liver disease.
He said Tripura is also witnessing the impact of these illnesses, making early diagnosis essential for improving public health outcomes.
To address the challenge, the government has launched a large-scale screening programme targeting residents aged above 30 years. According to Dr. Saha, the state has fixed an annual target of 15 lakh health screenings to identify diseases before symptoms become severe.
He said timely detection is critical to achieving the government’s vision of building a healthier Tripura.
Healthcare Schemes Focus on Prevention
The Chief Minister said preventive healthcare initiatives have been expanded through programmes such as the Mukhyamantri Niramaya Arogya Abhiyan, the Lab Network, and the Stop Diarrhoea initiative, which follows a hub-and-spoke healthcare delivery model.
According to him, these measures have improved access to diagnostic services, allowing patients to undergo necessary medical tests within Tripura instead of travelling outside the state.
The expansion of diagnostic facilities, he said, is helping make healthcare more accessible and convenient for residents across different districts.
Government Plans Modern Public Hospitals
Dr. Saha also highlighted recent improvements in healthcare infrastructure.
He said the newly inaugurated civil hospital has started functioning with 50 beds and houses all major departments. Outpatient Department (OPD) services, he added, will remain available throughout the day.
If the model performs successfully, the government intends to introduce similar facilities in the remaining 19 Municipal and Nagar Panchayat areas.

The long-term objective, according to the Chief Minister, is to modernise government hospitals so they can provide services comparable to corporate healthcare institutions while remaining accessible to the public.
Infrastructure Spending Continues Alongside Healthcare
While healthcare remained a major focus of his address, Dr. Saha also outlined the government’s broader development agenda.
He said projects worth around ₹1,500 crore were inaugurated or had foundation stones laid during the previous financial year. In the current financial year, projects valued at more than ₹121 crore have already been launched.
The government has also earmarked ₹10,000 crore under capital expenditure to strengthen infrastructure across the state, including roads and public facilities.
Investment Push Supports Future Growth
The Chief Minister also referred to the recently held Destination Tripura Conclave 2026, saying the event attracted more than 1,200 participants from different Indian states and foreign countries.
He said the conclave exceeded its original investment target. While the government had aimed for Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹1 lakh crore, the final investment proposals reached ₹1.21 lakh crore.
Dr. Saha said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s HIRA Model has increased Tripura’s national visibility. He added that the implementation of Central and state flagship schemes has contributed to higher Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth and helped the state secure more than 350 national awards.
He said the government remains committed to implementing projects that will benefit future generations.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Minister Tinku Roy, MLAs Abhishek Debroy and Jitendra Majumder, Secretaries Kiran Gitte and P.K. Chakraborty, along with other senior officials, attended the programme.
