The state government will distribute free laptops to meritorious students who successfully passed the 2026 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations.

Digital Devices to Support Future Learning
The Directorate of Information Technology and Communications (DITC) has begun identifying eligible students for the laptop distribution programme.
The exercise covers students who appeared in examinations conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC).
Officials believe that access to a personal laptop can significantly improve learning opportunities. Students can attend online classes, access digital libraries, complete assignments, explore educational platforms and prepare for competitive examinations with greater ease.
The initiative also encourages students to develop digital skills that have become essential in higher education and today’s job market.
Academic Excellence Receives Government Recognition

Students who cleared the 2026 MBOSE Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC), CBSE, ICSE and ISC examinations will be considered for the award, provided they satisfy the prescribed eligibility criteria.
For candidates from the CBSE, ICSE and ISC boards, the government has fixed an additional condition. They must have appeared from schools affiliated with their respective boards and located within Meghalaya.
Officials said this criterion ensures that the benefits reach students studying in educational institutions within the state.
Verification Process Underway
The Directorate has already uploaded the provisional list of eligible students on its official website.
Students can now verify whether their names have been included in the list.
Those whose names appear but who have not yet received any official communication regarding the laptop award have been asked to visit the Directorate.
They must carry their original marksheets, a valid photo identity card and other supporting documents required for verification.
Officials said the verification exercise will help eliminate discrepancies before the final beneficiary list is prepared.
Registration Window Open Till September 3
The online registration portal for the laptop distribution programme became operational on August 3.
Eligible students can complete their registration until September 3.
The Directorate has also invited written objections and queries related to the provisional list during the same period.
Officials have advised students to complete the verification process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute difficulties.
After examining all claims and objections, the Directorate will publish the final list of beneficiaries.
