Agartala, August 12: The rural housing programme in Tripura has maintained a pace far ahead of most Northeastern states, with the state completing almost all houses sanctioned under PMAY-G during the last five financial years. The latest figures, placed by the Minister of State for Rural Development Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani in a written reply in Lok Sabha on August 11, also place Tripura among the region’s strongest performers in converting allocated housing targets into completed pucca homes.
Between FY 2021-22 and FY 2025-26, the Centre allocated a target of 3,28,240 houses to Tripura. The state sanctioned 3,27,527 houses.
Of these, 3,25,429 houses have been completed. Another 2,098 houses remain under construction.
The figures mean that Tripura has completed 99.14% of its allocated target. It has also completed 99.36% of the houses sanctioned.

Tripura ranks second in Northeast by completed houses
In absolute numbers, Assam remains the largest PMAY-G performer in the Northeast.
Assam completed 15,77,624 houses during the five-year period. Tripura followed with 3,25,429 completed houses.
Meghalaya stood third with 1,01,439 completed houses. Manipur completed 25,234 houses, while Nagaland completed 22,266. Mizoram reported 12,023 completed houses.
Arunachal Pradesh completed 5,497 houses against a target of 5,519.
However, the picture changes when completion is measured against the allocated target.

Tripura therefore ranks second in the Northeast in completion percentage, marginally behind Arunachal Pradesh. It has the highest completion rate among the region’s states, despite having a substantially larger PMAY-G target.
The gap between Tripura and the other major Northeast states is particularly significant. Tripura’s 99.14% completion rate is nearly 19 percentage points higher than Meghalaya’s and about 28 percentage points higher than Assam’s.
Tripura gets 2nd-highest Northeast target under expanded PMAY-G
The broader PMAY-G programme also places Tripura among the major beneficiaries in the Northeast.
The Ministry has allocated a total target of 4.18 crore houses to States and Union Territories under the expanded phase of the scheme. The overall programme aims to support construction of 4.95 crore rural houses by March 31, 2029.
Tripura’s current allocation stands at 3,76,913 houses.
Only Assam has received a higher target among the eight Northeastern states, with 29,62,945 houses.
Meghalaya has been allocated 1,88,034 houses. Manipur has received a target of 1,13,550, while Nagaland has 48,830. Arunachal Pradesh has 35,937 and Mizoram 29,967.
Thus, Tripura accounts for the second-largest PMAY-G target in the Northeast under the current allocation.
Central funding crosses ₹3,800 crore
The financial data also highlights the scale of PMAY-G implementation in Tripura.
The Ministry released ₹3,819.60 crore as the Central share to the state during FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26.
Total utilisation under the scheme stood at ₹4,284.16 crore, including the Central and State shares.
The utilisation figure is higher than the Central share released during the period. This reflects expenditure involving both Central and State contributions and available balances.
Across India, the Centre released ₹1,31,100.02 crore as its share during the five years. Total expenditure under PMAY-G reached ₹2,17,896.40 crore.
Housing for All remains the larger goal
