A major employment push is set to take shape in Tripura after the state Cabinet cleared recruitment and post-creation proposals across police, health, higher education and other departments. The decisions cover hundreds of positions and also strengthen the proposed railway policing network in the state.

Key Takeaways

  • Tripura Cabinet approves recruitment to 916 police constable posts through direct recruitment.
  • The government creates 200 Assistant Professor posts for general degree colleges across the state.
  • Cabinet also clears 219 LDC posts, 27 technical posts and 105 railway police posts.

Agartala August 20: The Tripura Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, has approved a broad package of recruitment and post-creation measures. The biggest decision involves 916 vacant constable posts under the Home Department. The Cabinet also approved the creation of 200 Assistant Professor posts for government general degree colleges across Tripura.

The decisions are expected to create new employment opportunities for young people and strengthen manpower in several public departments.

916 Police Constable Posts to Be Filled

The Cabinet has approved direct recruitment to 916 constable posts in Tripura Police.

The vacancies will cover both men and women. The recruitment will follow the existing police recruitment framework.

Candidates will have to clear the prescribed physical tests and written examination. The selection process will also include an interview. A recruitment board headed by the Director General of Police will oversee the process.

The decision comes as the state seeks to strengthen its police manpower and improve security and public service delivery.

200 Assistant Professor Posts Created

The Cabinet has also approved the creation of 200 Assistant Professor posts for government general degree colleges.

The posts will cover colleges across the state. The move is aimed at strengthening the teaching workforce in higher education.

Several government degree colleges currently depend partly on contractual faculty. The new posts are expected to provide a more stable staffing structure.

However, the Cabinet decision concerns creation of posts, not immediate recruitment. The Finance Department will have to approve the filling of these posts before the recruitment process begins.

This distinction is important for prospective candidates. The creation of posts establishes the sanctioned positions. The recruitment notification will follow the required administrative and financial approvals.

219 LDC Posts in Health Department

The Cabinet has approved recruitment to 219 Lower Division Clerk posts under the Health and Family Welfare Department.

The positions fall under Group C. Recruitment will take place through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT).

The decision will add clerical manpower to the state health administration. It is also among the largest non-police recruitment measures cleared during the Cabinet meeting.

27 Technical Posts in Printing Department

Another 27 vacancies will be filled under the General Administration Printing and Stationery Department.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced in civil secretariat in Agartala on August 20, 2026 that Tripura Cabinet has approved a major package of recruitment and post-creation proposals, including 916 police constable posts.

These are Group C technical positions. The proposed posts include Chargeman, Chargeman Retouching, Chargeman Offset Machine, Copy Holder, Kokborok Copy Holder, Machineman and Byeman.

The Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura will conduct the recruitment.

The posts are linked to technical functions within the government printing and stationery establishment.

105 Posts for Railway Police Stations

The Cabinet has also approved 105 posts for railway policing.

The manpower will support four proposed Government Railway Police stations at Bishramganj, Udaipur, Belonia and Sabroom.

The 105 posts will cover several ranks and categories. These include three Sub-Inspectors, 11 Women Sub-Inspectors, nine Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 21 Women Head Constables, 56 Women Constables and five Constable Drivers.

The expansion assumes added importance as railway connectivity expands across Tripura. The new manpower will help provide policing and passenger-related services at the identified railway locations.

Tribal Welfare Department Gets 15 Posts

The Cabinet has also approved the filling of 15 posts under the Tribal Welfare Department through JRBT.

The recruitment will cover six Lower Division Clerk posts and nine Multi-Tasking Staff positions.

The decision will strengthen administrative support within the department.

Wider Higher Education Expansion

Alongside the government college posts, the Cabinet has approved the Sri Sri University Tripura Bill, 2026.

The proposed university will come up in Sepahijala district. It will be associated with the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Trust, which runs educational and social initiatives in different parts of India.

The proposed institution will offer programmes across multiple levels. These may include certificate, diploma, postgraduate diploma, bachelor degree, master degree, MPhil, PhD and post-doctoral programmes.

The academic areas will include science, engineering and technology, architecture and planning, social sciences and humanities, commerce and management, AYUSH, yoga and naturopathy, and medical sciences.

Employment and Institutional Expansion

Taken together, the Cabinet decisions represent a significant expansion of sanctioned manpower across Tripura.

The 916 police constable vacancies form the largest immediate recruitment component. The 219 Health Department LDC posts and 27 technical posts will add further opportunities through JRBT.

The 200 Assistant Professor positions represent a separate long-term investment in higher education. Their recruitment will depend on subsequent financial approval.

The creation of railway police posts and the proposed university also point to wider institutional expansion.

For job seekers, the next important step will be the release of formal recruitment notifications and the completion of required administrative approvals. Until then, candidates should rely only on official notifications for eligibility, application dates and selection rules.
