Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala detected on August 24 five passengers during routine security surveillance, including four persons suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian citizen allegedly assisting them.
The five passengers attracted the attention of CISF personnel during routine checks at the airport. Their identities and travel details were subsequently verified in coordination with Tripura Police and other concerned security agencies.
During the verification process, officials found that one of the five passengers was an Indian national. He was allegedly acting as a handler for the other four passengers, who were suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals.
The group was scheduled to fly from Agartala to Kolkata on IndiGo flight 6E 6097. After reaching Kolkata, three of the passengers were scheduled to continue their journey to Delhi on IndiGo flight 6E 6183. The fourth passenger was scheduled to travel to Bengaluru on IndiGo flight 6E 757.
Following the preliminary verification, CISF personnel handed over all five individuals to the local Airport Police Station. The police will take further legal action based on the findings of the investigation.
The concerned authorities are continuing to investigate the case. CISF also continues to conduct security checks and maintain surveillance at airports in coordination with police, intelligence agencies and other law-enforcement bodies.
