Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said the state government has prepared a master plan for modern infrastructure development in urban areas while speaking at the inauguration of a new ward office at Pratapgarh in Agartala today.
Key Takeaways
- Tripura has prepared a master plan for modern infrastructure in Nagar Panchayat (NP) and Municipal Council areas.
- Agartala has received 65 Smart City Mission projects worth Rs 581 crore.
- AMRUT 2.0 has provided safe drinking water to 16,000 families, with more projects planned under AMRUT 3.0.
The urban development programme in Agartala is set to expand beyond the Smart City Mission, with the Tripura government preparing a wider infrastructure roadmap for nagar panchayats and municipal areas across the state.
State plans wider urban infrastructure push
The government wants to extend modern civic infrastructure beyond Agartala, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said.
He said the administration aims to ensure that every section of society benefits from development and improved public services.
According to the Chief Minister, the government is pursuing development programmes without political considerations. It also wants to take public services closer to people’s homes.
Dr. Saha made the statement while inaugurating the newly constructed two-storey ward office of Ward No. 43 of Agartala Municipal Corporation at Pratapgarh.
The new ward office cost Rs 97.43 lakh.
Agartala sees expansion of civic facilities
The Chief Minister said Agartala has witnessed substantial development in recent years, particularly in modern civic infrastructure.
He listed several areas where the government has taken up work. These include drinking water supply, road construction and repairs, drainage improvement, housing and healthcare services.
The government has also focused on creating alternative employment opportunities, he said.
Dr. Saha said the administration has worked to provide safe drinking water at people’s doorsteps as part of its urban development efforts.
Under the AMRUT 2.0 project, the government has spent Rs 112 crore on drinking water services.
So far, 16,000 families in Agartala have received safe drinking water services under the project.
Housing support for economically weaker sections
The government has also taken up housing initiatives for financially weaker sections.
Dr. Saha said 48 flats have already been constructed for economically weaker people. Construction of two additional flats remains underway.
The Chief Minister linked these initiatives to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring that government facilities reach the last person in society.
He said the state government is following that approach while extending public services to people across Tripura.
65 Smart City projects worth Rs 581 crore
The development of Agartala has also received a major push through the Smart City Mission.
Dr. Saha said 65 projects have been implemented across the city under the mission at a total cost of Rs 581 crore.

These projects form part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve civic amenities in the state capital.
The government is also giving attention to the overall development and beautification of Agartala, he said.
More projects planned under AMRUT 3.0
The Chief Minister said the next phase of urban development will include additional programmes under AMRUT 3.0.
The new initiatives will build on the work already undertaken through AMRUT 2.0 and other urban development programmes.
The government’s broader plan covers both infrastructure development and improvement of the city’s appearance.
Dr. Saha said the state intends to continue implementing development schemes in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area while also expanding modern infrastructure across other urban local bodies.
The emphasis, he said, remains on better services and infrastructure for people across the state.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, South Zone Chairman Abhijit Mallick and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Wahid attended the programme.
