TRLM Secretary Abhishek Singh, CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma and COO Sankaraj Roy represented Tripura at the October 7-8 workshop in Shillong, where Singh highlighted the state’s credit linkage performance and its achievements against targets under three phases of the Samriddhi programme.

Key Takeaways:

  • TRLM highlighted second-place ranking of the State in credit linkage and settlement ratio last year.
  • Tripura exceeded its Samriddhi targets in all three phases, reaching ₹809 crore against a combined target of ₹450 crore.
  • The national workshop stressed that training must ultimately lead to employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.

Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) highlighted the state’s strong performance in credit linkage and the Samriddhi programme at a national-level regional workshop on RSETIs and RUDSETIs in Shillong. The delegation presented success stories and achievements of Tripura while the workshop stressed the need to connect rural skill training with sustainable employment and livelihood opportunities.

TRLM showcases State performance

The national-level regional workshop is being held at Hotel Marriott in Shillong, Meghalaya, on October 7 and 8. It brings together officials and stakeholders working in the areas of rural skill development, livelihoods and employment.

The workshop is chaired by Rohit Kansal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD). Officials from the MoRD, National Informatics Centre (NIC), Central Technical Support Agencies, nine State Rural Livelihood Missions and project implementing agencies are participating in the event.

TRLM has a key representation at the workshop. Secretary Abhishek Singh, IAS, CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma and COO Sankaraj Roy are representing the mission.

During the workshop, Singh highlighted Tripura’s success stories and performance in credit linkage and settlement.

He said Tripura ranked second last year in the credit linkage and settlement ratio. The performance reflects the state’s progress in connecting rural communities with credit and livelihood opportunities.

Samriddhi targets surpassed

Singh also presented Tripura’s achievements under the Samriddhi programme.

The figures showed that Tripura exceeded its targets in all three phases mentioned at the workshop.

Under Samriddhi 1, the target stood at ₹100 crore. The achievement reached ₹189 crore.

The performance continued under Samriddhi 2. Against a target of ₹150 crore, Tripura achieved ₹289 crore.

The state also exceeded its target under Samriddhi 3. The programme had a target of ₹200 crore, while the achievement reached ₹331 crore.

Together, the three phases had a combined target of ₹450 crore. The combined achievement stood at ₹809 crore.

The figures highlighted the scale of performance across the three phases in Tripura. They also formed a key part of the presentation on the state’s livelihood and credit linkage achievements.

Training must create livelihood opportunities

The workshop also focused on the larger purpose of rural skill development.

Rohit Kansal said training should not remain the final objective. Instead, it should serve as a step towards creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for poor, rural and needy people.

“Training is only a step towards reaching the ultimate goal. The ultimate objective should be to connect poor, rural and needy people with employment or livelihood opportunities,” Kansal said.

He said the focus should extend beyond providing training. Beneficiaries should receive opportunities for wage-based employment, entrepreneurship or work in the service sector.

Kansal stressed that the broader objective is to equip people with the skills and training they need to become self-reliant. Such support should help them stand on their own feet and progress in life.

TRLM’s role in rural livelihoods

The workshop provided TRLM with an opportunity to present performance of the State before representatives of other states and key rural livelihood stakeholders.

Singh’s presentation placed particular emphasis on credit linkage and the achievements recorded under Samriddhi. The figures showed that the state exceeded the targets set under all three phases.

The discussions at the workshop also underlined the need to link training with tangible economic outcomes. Skill development, according to the focus of the workshop, should ultimately help beneficiaries secure employment, start enterprises or establish themselves in the service sector.

For TRLM, the workshop offered a platform to highlight Tripura’s achievements in credit linkage and livelihood-oriented initiatives. The mission’s delegation also represented the state in discussions involving national and state-level stakeholders in rural development.

The emphasis on employment and self-reliance added a wider dimension to the workshop. It placed livelihood outcomes at the centre of rural skill development and reinforced the need to turn training into sustainable economic opportunities.

Performance of Tripura under Samriddhi, along with its credit linkage and settlement ratio, emerged as the key highlights of the state’s presentation at the Shillong workshop.
