Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, in response to a media query said in Agartala on October 13 that the state government would issue appointment offers to 1452 teachers on October 14, including 766 TET-2 candidates and 686 candidates recommended for newly created secondary teacher posts, while two other recruitment processes remain on hold due to pending court cases.

Key Takeaways

  • 1,452 appointment offers: The government will issue offers to 766 TET-2 candidates and 686 candidates recommended for newly created secondary teacher posts on October 14.
  • TET-2 vacancies remain: The department could not find 233 ST candidates, 23 ex-servicemen candidates and 20 physically challenged candidates required for the planned recruitment.
  • Two recruitments remain on hold: TET-1 recruitment awaits proceedings in the High Court, while a reservation-related case concerning 230 STGT posts remains pending before the Supreme Court.

Tripura will issue appointment offers to 1,452 teachers at the International Fair Ground in Hapania on Wednesday, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha announced on October 13.

The appointments cover two categories. The first includes 766 Graduate Teachers selected through the Teachers’ Eligibility Test-II (TET-2). The second comprises 686 candidates recommended by the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT), against newly created Graduate Teacher posts in secondary schools.

However, the government has yet to resolve recruitment delays affecting Under Graduate Teachers selected through TET-1 and Secondary Graduate Teachers (STGT). Dr Saha said court cases have prevented the department from completing these recruitment processes.

The department will distribute their appointment offers at the International Fair Ground in Hapania on October 14. The government will also issue offers to 686 candidates recommended for additional secondary teacher posts.

Together, the two groups account for 1,452 appointment offers scheduled for Wednesday.

The announcement comes amid continued concerns among candidates over pending teacher recruitment and the status of their appointments.

Reserved Category Vacancies Remain Unfilled

The Chief Minister explained that the government could not fill all the intended TET-2 vacancies because the recruitment process did not yield the required number of eligible candidates in certain categories.

According to Dr Saha, the department could not find 233 Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, 23 ex-servicemen candidates and 20 candidates under the physically challenged category.

The shortage prevented the government from completing the recruitment against all the planned vacancies.

Dr Saha also said 1,502 candidates had obtained TET-2 certificates. The government would consider their cases and take a decision on their recruitment at a later stage.

However, he did not announce a specific timeline for that decision.

TET-1 Recruitment on Hold Due to Court Case

The Chief Minister said the government had suspended recruitment for Under Graduate Teacher posts through TET-1 because the matter remained sub judice before the High Court.

He said the department could not proceed with the recruitment while the case remained pending. The government would discuss the issue and consider further steps once the legal proceedings reached a stage that permitted action.

The statement clarifies the government’s position on TET-1 recruitment amid questions from candidates seeking updates on their appointments.

Government Creates 700 New Secondary Teacher Posts

To address the shortage of teachers in secondary schools, the state government has created 700 additional Graduate Teacher posts, Dr Saha said.

In response to a query, Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha on October 13 focused on distribution of Appointment offers to teachers event scheduled on October 14.

TRBT has recommended 686 candidates against these newly created vacancies. The government will issue their appointment offers alongside those for the 766 TET-2 candidates at Hapania on October 14.

The additional posts are intended to help reduce the shortage of Graduate Teachers in the state’s secondary education sector.

Although the board has recommended 686 candidates against 700 posts, the Chief Minister did not provide further details about the remaining vacancies.

STGT Recruitment Awaits Resolution of Supreme Court Case

Dr Saha also addressed the delay in recruiting Secondary Graduate Teachers (STGT).

He said the government could not complete the recruitment process for 230 posts because a reservation-related case remained pending before the Supreme Court.

The legal dispute has forced the department to keep the process on hold. The government must await further progress in the case before completing the appointments, the Chief Minister indicated.

The announcement highlights the different stages of Tripura’s teacher recruitment process. While 1,452 candidates are scheduled to receive appointment offers on October 14, the TET-1 and STGT recruitments remain stalled by pending litigation.
