August 28, 2018: The Ranglong Youth Association – the only umbrella organization of Ranglong Community – demanded setting up of AIIMS and RIE at North Tripura district. Ranglong is one of the most vulnerable backward communities living in parts of Tripura, Assam and Mizoram.
The president of the organization Reubel Ranglong said, members of RYA submitted a deputation to the DM of the North district. He said, RYA also demanded English Medium School in the area inhabited by the people of Ranglong. This community mainly inhabits the eastern part of National Highway-8 bordering Assam, from Churaibari up to Panisagar under Noagang and Damcherra Sub-Zone of Machmara Zone of AADC in North Tripura District,with exception of few villages in the western part of the NH.
Talking about demand list submitted to the DM, R Ranglong said, repairing rural roads and conversion of existing Bengali medium school in Ranglong inhabited areas are part of total 9-point demand raised by RYA.
Highlighting role of RYA, general secretary of organization N Halam said, RYA has been making every voluntary endeavor for the socio-economic uplift of the Ranglong community over the years, right from its inception in 1994.
It is also an organization which has been playing an important role to ensure peace and harmony since the heyday of insurgency movement in Tripura. He also alleged, people of Ranglong community is prone to varied forms of socio-economic exploitation and assimilation.
After submitting the deputation, RYA leaders expressed hope that the new Government will take necessary steps to uplift the community and improve overall living conditions of the people of the community.
