September 16, 2018: The rise in domestic fuel prices remained unabated on Sunday, with the price of petrol reached an all time high of Rs. 80.29 a litre in Tripura.
As per rates released daily by state-run Indian Oil Corp, the depreciating rupee and expensive crude oil further pushed petrol and diesel to new record highs on Sunday.
As the State gears up to celebrate Viswakarma – deity of creativity – Puja on September 17, another hike in fuel prices have left the mood of people dampen. “Already market is in slump – and with continuous hike in fuel prices, financial stress on common people will increase”, said one Santanu Halder of Agartala.
Today – a day before the Viswakarma Puja, the price of petrol (Rs. 80.29/litre) was highest in state’s history.
In fact, Tripura is not an isolated case, fuel prices are increasing across the country since August 1 last and barring a single occasion on August 13, fuel prices are hovering around record levels.
