September 24, 2018: Prevalence of seasonal diseases have resulted seven deaths, so far, in Dhalai district in Tripura, said the Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman and added, a high level delegation will tour malaria prone areas in Dhalai and explore preventive measures. Meanwhile, Health department has focused on distributing medicated mosquito nets to prevent prevalence of Malaria.
Addressing a press conference at Civil Secretariat today in Agartala, the Health Minister said, six persons have died due to Malaria while another person died of Japanese Encephalitis in the current year, so far in Dhalai district in the State.
Sudip Roy Barman said, even though, prevalence of Malaria this year is comparatively high due to excess rain during pre-monsoon session, number of deaths compared to 2014 have remarkably lower due to preventive measures taken by the Government.
“This year, the state government took preventive measures from the beginning. As a result, the deadly disease could not spread its roots in rural hamlets. However, falling victim to Malaria, six persons – all of them from Dhalai district – had lost their lives. Apart from this, another person died due to Japanese Encephalitis in the same district,” Roy Barman said.
He said, “The malaria epidemic generally hits the state in the month of June every year. To beat malaria, the state government conducted a number of health camps across the rural areas this year. In 2018, as many as 4276 health camps have been conducted so far and blood samples of over one lakh persons have been tested. Of the total, blood samples of 3822 persons have been examined in the current month.”
He also said the state government has set a target to distribute 1.80 lakh medicated mosquito nets among the people residing in malaria-prone zones.
Focusing on health care delivery system, the Minister said, 41 Multipurpose Workers have been deputed in Sub Health centers in Malaria prone areas. Moreover, all leave petitions have also stalled. The Government is mulling to send additional medical practitioners in Primary Health care centers in Dhalai, he said and also mentioned about preventive measures like DDT spraying, awareness camp etc.
